Brightest runs the 100 km for Kom op tegen Kanker

June 12, 2024

Sunday March 16th 2025 is marked brightly in our Brightest calendar. That day, three teams of Brightest colleagues participate in the “100 km-run” event for Kom op tegen Kanker.

We all know someone who’s (been) fighting against this terrible disease. Although today’s cancer treatments are quite advanced, there’s still a lot we don’t know. More research is needed to keep advancing.

With this initiative, the three teams aim to collect €8250 for research purposes. As we can read on the Kom op tegen Kanker website, the research has a direct impact on the quality of life and survival chances of people with cancer. This is highly needed, since every year more than 40 000 Flemish people are told that they have cancer.

The teams

In this event, each of our Brightest teams will represent one regional office: Kontich, Ghent and Genk. Although generally we love a taste of “healthy competition”, on this day we will all be united with the same purpose in mind. The 100 km-run is all about teamwork, helping each other, supporting each other, lifting each other up, … Qualities that are very aligned with some of our core values, like “empower people” and “excel together”. Even more so when faced with a challenge.

In each team, member one will run 40 km, member two 30 km, member three 20 km and member four 10 km. But they will cross the finish line together as one team. The run will definitely be challenging, but it doesn’t come close to what cancer patients and their families have to deal with.
